Thanks to my first horror story sales, I have been accepted into the Horror Writers Association as an affiliate member! I have two horror stories (“The Wager” and “What Mel Knows”) coming out this year and several more under consideration at different magazines. I look forward to many years of keeping random strangers awake at night with unsettling imagery and the general weirdness that my twisted mind creates.
I’m happy to announce that my supernatural horror story, “The Wager,” has been accepted for publication in Seers and Sibyls, an anthology by Brigids Gate Press with an expected release date sometime in September of this year. Here’s a description of the story:
After a supernatural entity kidnaps their unborn child from the womb, a young New Orleans couple seeks help from a Choctaw conjuror to get him back. But defeating an evil this strong will take more than spiritual power; it will take wits.
“The Wager” draws on my tribe’s traditional beliefs in “isht ahullo” (conjuring witches and miracle-workers) as well as my 21 years of living, working, and attending college in and around New Orleans. I’m thrilled that I will soon be able to share this story with the world!
I am very pleased to announce that Cosmic Horror Monthly is going to publish my sci-fi horror story, “What Mel Knows.” Here’s a description of the story:
A lab accident leaves a physicist’s conscious mind jumping further and further into the future while her body remains in the present. But what happens when her mind reaches a future without her in it?
This is my very first short story and my first publication (aside from research papers). I am a physics major and drew on that background while writing it. Two side characters, Seth and Laura, are even named after my real lab partners from my time at Louisiana State University.
I had a lot of fun writing this somewhat sadistic story and can’t wait for it to appear in Cosmic Horror Monthly! It’s scheduled for sometime between July and December of this year. I’ll provide updates once I know the exact issue.
